This is the 911 Communications
center. Public Safety
Dispatchers dispatch police, fire
and rescue services from this
room. They are highly trained
and experienced in getting you
the emergency services you
need. All Full Time dispatchers
are certified in E-911, (Enhanced
911), EMD, Emergency Medical
Dispatching, and CTO, Certified
Terminal Operator. Some
dispatcher have advanced
training in field such as domestic
violence dispatching, or
advanced fire and police
dispatching.
The center is staffed by two
dispatchers for the 7am - 3pm
and 3pm -11pm shifts, and one
dispatcher during the 11pm-7am
shift. In the summer the midnight
shift has double coverage due to
increased call volume.
The communication center
handles 911 and business lines.
Not all calls for an emergency
response come on the 911 lines
either.
When calling the Police Department
for any reason please understand that
the dispatcher who answers will do
their best to assist you in anyway. At
times the Communications Center will
handle several emergency calls at the
same time, and will need to prioritize
which calls to answer first, or send an
emergency unit to, but rest assured
they will do whatever possible to get
you care as soon as possible. It is not
always that the calls are answered in
the order that they are received, i.e.
911 lines are given priority over
business lines.
If you dial "911" from any land line
telephone within the jurisdiction of Old
Orchard Beach you will be
automatically connected to the
Scarborough Communications Center.
A Scarborough dispatcher will gather
pertinent information, then transfer
you to the Old Orchard Beach
Communications Center. If you call
from a Cellular telephone it will be
answered by either the State Police
Communications Center in Gray or the
Scarborough Communications Center,
depending on your specific cellular
service and devise. They will then
transfer you directly to the Old
Orchard Communications Center.
