| FIRST RESPONDERS HONORED A beautiful sunny day greeted members of the South Portland ROCK Church who gathered at the Old Orchard Beach Fire Department to prepare for a Barbecue honoring Old Orchard Beach’s first responders. Fire Chief John Glass and Police Chief Dana Kelley expressed appreciation to members of the Church and members of the Campground Neighborhood Watch who worked to create a festive and family- friendly atmosphere for a gathering in which words of appreciation were given for the dedicated service provided by the first responders. Reverend and Mrs. Eric Samuelson joined a large group of their church congregation in preparing for the approximate hundred attendees. A highlight for the children of the first responders was the Barnyard animals and Petting Zoo provided by Jill Flaherty, owner of Flaherty’s Stables. The children (and adults too) mingled with a pony, a rooster, ducks, bunnies, sheep, lamb, pot belly pig and a host of other delightful animals as well as games and face painting. Major Norman Garcia of The Salvation Army offered the prayer at the beginning of the festivities. Sue and Seth Davis approached the Assistant Town Manager, Louise Reid, last year about the event and were instrumental in organizing it again for its second year. Pictures provided by Linda Jenkins.
